It was announced that the economic crisis in 2012 tourism season in Greece will have a positive affect on yacht tourism in Göcek.

The rumour says the number of the yachts visiting Aegean and Mediterranean coasts will increase this year. Göcek in Fethiye is one of the notable yacht centers in Turkey, and a thousand and five hundred yachts spend the winter in six marinas every year.

Göcek Mayor Recep Şatır provided information about 2012 tourism season and said “Every year, our expectations from the season is better than the previous year. Unfortunately, the global economic crisis influence Göcek yacht tourism, too. However, we have positive expectations this year.  Although we are affected by the global crisis, we will have a better season. Especially, the crisis in our neighbour will have a positive affect in our season.”

Mayor Şatır said that they might have problems if Muğla becomes a Metropolitan Municipality. “Especially in Göcek and Ölüdeniz, problems and weaknesses will arise. If Muğla becomes a metropolitan, some small city municipalities will be canceled and extinguished. Göcek is a strategical town. We are known worldwide and I hope we do not have problems and weaknesses due to this decision.”
