Fire Fighting Team of 150 Is Ready
Fethiye Forestry Administration took all measures against possible forest fires. The Forestry Administration will fight with forest fires with a team of 150 people together with 6 sprinklers, four tankers, four rangers, three ground team and a helicopter. 20 pools are constructed at 20 points, and with 5 watching towers, a tiny bit of smoke is detected and alarmed. Since January 2012, Fethiye has seen 6 forest fires only 0.9 hectare burnt down because of immediate intervention. Watching towers are located on Babadağ, Avdancık, Geyrantepe, Çaldağ and Dikmentepe, and the forest fire workers at Göcek, Ovacık Değirmenbaşı will keep 24-hour duty from the date of June 1, 2012.
Authorities asked the local to “not to enter the woods, not to throw burning cigarettes, not to set fire with any reason, keep children and mentally retarded under control, not to burn stubble and watch the exhaust pipes of their vehicles against any sparks” to prevent forest fires.
