The Minister of Culture & Tourism, Ertuğrul Günay stated that they will give weight to two important ancient sites of Muğla, Beçin and Kayaköy in 2012.

Minister Günay was in Fethiye last week and he visited Kayaköy. He told the local press that he had been to Kayaköy 35 years ago, and the village was in a much better state of preservation than it is today.

During his visit, Vice President of Fethiye AK Party Burhanettin Tuna who was born in Kayaköy accompanied him and provided information on the village. Tuna said the historic urban fabric of Kayaköy was ruined due to dense and illegal housing after 1990.

Minister Günay promised that work would begin this year on preserving some of the old structures in the ‘ghost village’ together with Beçin in Milas. He added that they would be following illegal housing closely.
