Pomegranate has miraculous effects on human health. As a former member of the Turkish National Cancer Advisory Board and a faculty member of the Science Institute of the faculty of education at Gazi University, Professor İbrahim Uslu says that pomegranate can strengthen the immune system and protect the body from disease.
Uslu notes that thanks to its vitamins, polyphenols, flavonoids and other nutrients, the hijaz pomegranate is particularly helpful in balancing cholesterol and blood sugar to protect the heart and halt the development of the cancer cells.
Noting that pomegranates can be a source of healing, Uslu says the hulls, seeds and membranes of the pomegranate are particularly beneficial. Uslu further notes: “Pomegranate membranes can assist in healing stomach ulcers. Pomegranate seed oil, now marketed by many firms, includes punicic acid, which is extremely valuable. It smoothes wrinkles, delays aging and assists in hair growth. For these reasons, it is used abundantly in the medical industry.” Uslu says pomegranate hulls should be dried before use. He also stresses that recent research, notably that carried out by the Institute of Hygiene and Environmental Medicine in China, shows that pomegranate hulls contain valuable ingredients. The ellagic acid in pomegranate hulls reduces the risk of most cancers, including breast cancer.
