Our grandson, now 4 years old, was born 10 weeks premature which caused a bleed on the brain resulting in him having cerebral palsy which affects his legs and he is unable to walk unaided.
The NHS will not fund his special operation ‘SDR’ which would enable him to walk after about 2 years of an intensive physiotherapy and exercise programme following the operation.
Frustrated at not being able to help with the fund raising in the UK, and in a moment of madness, we decided to enter a half marathon in Cornwall Uk on August 5th. My husband is now 60, while I am the youngster at 55. Having never participated in running, except for a bus, we hope to succeed and survive the experience while raising as much as we can in the process. We are currently training in our hometown of Fethiye.
Here is Joseph’s link: http://www.justgiving.com/Josephs-Dream where you can read his story and donate if you wish, and if you do make a donation if you quote ‘Indian Queens half marathon’ as we may be able to get pound for pound sponsorship.
They have been very fortunate (worked hard) and have managed to raise the 35k needed for the actual operation, Joseph has a long way to go but his dream starts 17th July when his op is scheduled, fund raising continues for equipment and aftercare needed, which is also not funded.
Thank you so much in anticipation and we will let everyone know how it goes when we return in September, hopefully with a success story to tell.
