Squirrel Motorize Squad formed for patrolling in forest areas in 1998 will be able to respond against small scale fires with apparatuses installed on motors.

The first fire extinguishing motorcycles have started service with the initiatives of Milas Forestry Department for the first time this year.

Motorize Squirrel Squad formed as part of General Forestry Department for the first time in 1998 is to be used as first response against forest fires. Milas Forestry Department started an arrangement to set an example. Milas Forestry Director Tayfur Kazakoğlu said they modernized 2 squirrel motorcycles and brought it into capacity to give the first response in a possible fire. Tayfur Kazakoğlu said the technical amendments would help Motorize Squirrel Squad give the first response against forest fires, “2 of 5 motorcycles in Motorized Squirrel Team managed by Milas Forestry Directorate have been modernized in a way to respond fires. The project was carried out by mechanical engineers and approved. The approved project was registered on the license in traffic registration office after the motor was permitted.”

Motorcycle has fire extinguishing equipment, sirens and sound system, says Kazakoğlu and concludes, “A water tank of 20 litres and foam tank of 20 litres are installed on the motorcycle to extinguish. Pressure nitrogen is used a propellant. Pressure nitrogen gas mixes the foam and water and enables extinguishing flames with pressure. The capacity of the motorcycle has been designed in a way to extinguish in an area of 100 m2 for 4 minutes. We plan to use this motorcycle for newly beginning fires or picnic fires. This arranged system is about 60 kg in total.”
