“Turkish” lessons have started for foreign citizens in Fethiye at Fethiye Public Education Centre. 24 course attendants most of whom are the British come to the course taking nearly 3 hours on Mondays and Wednesdays. It was announced the foreign citizens living in Fethiye prefer to attend these courses to speak Turkish and understand people, especially their neighbours and during their shopping at markets. Teacher MuammerAslan teaches them reading and writing in Turkish as well as speaking and foreign course attendants are happy to learn new words. Turkish course is to last 128 hours and each course attendant will receive a certificate at the end of the course. Teacher MuammerAslan said, “Our foreign course attendants study hard to learn even one word.”
Janet Kendle (aged 68), KerlHewkins (aged 61), Sue Broker (aged 64), Sharon Pidgley (aged 46), Paul Hembrough (aged 59), Cherry Mae Metin (aged 21) and Angie Valentıne (aged 50) said it was difficult both to write and speak Turkish but they would not give up, “We have been attending this course to get along with our neighbours better and speak in Turkish at the markets. We will definitely learn Turkish as we have been living in Turkish.”.(iha)
