Scottish Jean Luise Thirkill who lives in Marmaris has begun to look after 40 stray dogs to train them in the shelter although she was already looking after 250 cats. 60 year old Jean Luise Thirkill who came to Marmaris almost 20 years ago started living here and dedicated herself to cats. She has become the mother of street animals at the shelter opened in Armutalan District with her great efforts. Thirkill gets ready to open a training centre for 40 stray dogs in the shelter located in Mezar Gediği Area on the road to Datça and will deliver the dogs to new owners after she trains them. Thirkill explained after the floor covering had been completed in the construction, they expected the cages to be sent. Thirkill said, “We have started looking after animals in 1993. We have 250 cats, 11 dogs, 1 horse and 1 donkey right now. We will have more dogs soon. All animal shelters are in full capacity in Marmaris. We are going to get 40 stray dogs and train them here. We will also choose their new owners and train the owners about animal care as well. If people look after animals well, we won’t need shelters any more. They will have bought trained dogs since we will train the stray dogs that we collect.” iha)
