The Hearing Impaired Fly from Mount Babadağ

işitme engelliler1_1067x800The members of Antalya Association of Hearing Impaired and Lithuanian guests came to Fethiye to make their dreams of flying come true on Mount Babadağ by paragliding. 10 hearing impaired, 2 of whom are from Lithuania, came to Ölüdeniz District of Fethiye with the supports of Antalya Province Gendarmerie Command to fly from Mount Babadağ (1965 m). The disabled had tandem flights one by one from 1700 m runway of Mount Babadağ with the guidance of paragliding pilots. The hearing impaired floated in the sky for 25 minutes and enjoyed the unique view of Ölüdeniz. The disabled landed in Belceğiz Beach after a silent flight and celebrated their happiness by hugging each other.



Hakan Kayan, the Vice President of Antalya Association of Hearing Impaired, explained that they came to Ölüdeniz with 2 Lithuanian guests and did paragliding to prove that they could overcome all the obstacles. Kayan stated that he overcame his own fear and excitement thanks to the pilot and felt like a bird in the sky. Kayan recommended all the hearing impaired to do paragliding and said, “I thought I was going to fall at first. But then I understood the purpose of flying. I always envied of parachuters during the military service. Now I know this feeling.”



Ümmuhan Kayhan, a member of the association, said, “I got very excited in the sky. There is a first time for everything. I felt dizzy in the beginning but it was an amazing flight.”

Ediz Yılmaz explained that they came to Mount Babadağ to overcome the obstacles, he was scared and nervous in the air and it was the first time he had experienced such a thing. Yılmaz said, “Even if taking off was frightening, I am happy that I have made my dreams of flying come true. I thought it was like a scene from a movie. Everything was beautiful.”



Paragliding pilot Kenan Tuncer noted it was a great happiness to fly the hearing impaired for them and said, “I had a very important flight for me. I was very moved by the quiet happiness on the faces of the disabled. Everyone was very happy. I am proud to be a part of this significant project.”
