Culture and Tourism Minister Ertuğrul Günay stated during a ceremony in the western province of Bursa on Wednesday that Turkey has become the fourth most popular destination for tourists in Europe.

Indicating that Turkey is one of the leading nations in tourism worldwide, Günay noted that it no longer competes with countries such as Greece and Egypt but rather with Italy, France and Spain — the three most favored destinations in Europe. “We are ready to restore every historical artifact from the Roman Empire to the Ottoman Empire, passing them on to the next generations successfully,” added Günay.

Turkey is among the top 10 countries in the world in terms of both the number of tourists who visit annually and the revenue generated. Turkey ranks sixth in terms of volume of tourists, with nearly 31.5 million visitors last year. According to figures provided by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat), Turkey ranked ninth in world tourism for revenue last year with $23 billion.
